Welcome to CURI

Health, Environment, Social Change: Where the Future Takes Shape

CURI is an advanced technological platform dedicated to the life sciences, with a focus on health, environment, and socio-demographic issues.

The Centro Umbro di Ricerca e Innovazione (CURI) combines cutting-edge analytical techniques for metabolomics, exposomics, and lipidomics with the development of innovative software for the collection, management, and bioinformatic interpretation of big data.
In addition to omics sciences, CURI has experimental and data analysis expertise for studying the properties of compounds of pharmaceutical interest.

The platform can be applied to complex problems in the agri-food, biological, environmental, pharmaceutical, and medical fields for the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic solutions based on the principles of personalized, predictive, participatory, and precision medicine (4P Medicine / M4P).

Regional Multidisciplinary Research Center for Omics Sciences

Objectives of the Centro Umbro di Ricerca e Innovazione

Promote research and innovation

through the development of joint projects with companies and public administrations, focusing on personalized medicine, omics technologies, and applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare and, more broadly, in life sciences research.

Accelerate the development and dissemination of personalized medicine and omics-based diagnostics

with direct benefits for the effectiveness of Diagnostic–Therapeutic–Care Pathways (PDTA) and the optimization of Integrated Home Care (ADI) services.

Foster knowledge and technology transfer

between academia, the healthcare system, and the industrial sector, promoting strategic collaborations and shared innovation.

Enhance education and specialized expertise

through advanced training programs (Master’s, Summer Schools, Industrial PhDs) in the fields of omics sciences and digital biotechnologies.

Omics Sciences

Integration of high-throughput mass spectrometry technologies for metabolomics, exposomics, and lipidomics with advanced bioinformatics analyses, enabling both untargeted and targeted investigations of complex biological matrices. Applications span multiple areas of biology and medicine, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sciences, nutrition, and environmental sciences.

Diagnostic Solutions

Implementation of analytical, biomolecular, and cellular techniques integrated with state-of-the-art omics technologies for the identification of biomarkers associated with physiological processes and diseases. Development of predictive tools for disease risk assessment, as well as advanced diagnostic, prognostic, and patient monitoring protocols. Early identification of beneficial or harmful effects of compounds under development for medical, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmetic, and environmental applications, contributing to the reduction of animal testing in accordance with European directives.

Omics Big Data

Support for the establishment of an integrated regional database combined with health indicators to develop predictive models of disease risk and to support the design of diagnostic and intervention protocols.

4P Medicine

Development of protocols for the diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring of diseases associated with aging, lifestyle, and malnutrition, following the principles of Predictive, Preventive, Personalized, and Participatory Medicine.

Pharmaceutical and Therapeutic Research

Application of omics technologies and disciplines to support the development of pharmaceuticals, health-related products, nutraceuticals, regenerative medicine solutions, and cell and tissue therapies. Investigation of the physicochemical properties and chemical or metabolic degradation of active pharmaceutical ingredients and medical devices intended for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmetic, veterinary, agro-food, and environmental applications.

Nutritional Innovations

Studies on the interactions among food, drugs, the microbiome, and the human genome through nutrigenomic approaches.

Investigation of nutrient metabolism and of individual responses to dietary, nutritional, and lifestyle interventions.

Environmental Biology and Biotechnology

Applications in the fields of agri-food systems, climate-related challenges, and environmental sustainability. Exposomics studies aimed at understanding the impact of environmental contaminants on the health of both simple and complex organisms.

Support for Technological Development

Support for local companies in the development of innovative technologies and promotion of the attraction of new companies to Umbria through strategic collaborations and partnerships.
